Imagine Theatre's "The Sound of Music"

Imagine Theatre is a Christ-centered educational organization based in Clackamas County (Milwaukie, Clackamas, Gladstone, Oregon City, Happy Valley, Damascus, Wilsonville, etc.) Length: The estimated performance length is 2hrs and 15min with intermission. Synopsis: When an Austrian nun proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her generosity of spirit, love of music and growing rapport with the children gradually capture the heart of the stern Captain. They fall in love and marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, the newlyweds discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. Refusing to capitulate, the Captain and his family narrowly escape over the mountains to Switzerland. Considerations: The Sound of Music is an uplifting story that will appeal to most ages. The Sound of Music includes challenging topics. Imagine Theatre is excited to have partnered with the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education to have them come in to educate the cast about WWII and the holocaust during the first week of rehearsals. At the advice of the OJMCHE, Imagine’s production of the Sound of Music will include the use of the swastika in limited places. We fully believe that the use of the swastika allows for authentic educational moments and promotes the discussion about hate and the modern use of the symbol. More information about this will be in the show program, including ways to learn more and take action. We encourage you to consider how youth will respond to the tense moments at the end of the show that include Nazi’s and immigration. The music is wonderful, and the show is full of positive messages.
